The Murder Book

Long before network t.v. discovered cold cases, I wondered about the possibility of solving a decade old crime with minimal evidence. Kind of like a locked-room mystery using time passage as the impediment. This novel represented another creative stretch, in that I alternated Alex and Milo’s perspectives, using first person narrative for AD and third person for MS.

I was out to learn more about Milo and flashbacked back to his days as a rookie detective. Highly structured and almost mathematically constructed – working backwards from the flimsiest of clues is like running a maze- this novel was tough to put together. But writing it was one of the my most enjoyable experiences as a novelist. And I did learn plenty about the big guy. Hopefully, that has translated to increased depth of character in subsequent novels.

"...Kellerman's 16th Alex Delaware novel is a hoot of a whodunit, a classic puzzler to keep the most staid traditionalist gleefully scratching his or her head until the wee hours. It's also a noir of gothic proportions, a descent into a California hell..."--Publishers Weekly
